June Is Pride Month; Governor Murphy’ Office and Others Share Resources

June 5, 2023

Pride Month is an observance dedicated to celebrating and commemorating the LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and more) community and its achievements, culture, and history.

As a result of the Murphy Administration’s continued efforts to protect the rights of New Jersey’s LGBTQIA+ community, they are happy to announce the first Transgender Resource Hub. Launched as a result of the efforts of the Transgender Equity Task Force, this resource hub is home to information important to transgender and non-binary communities, such as their rights, how to change their names, how to obtain medical support, and more.

As reported by NJAMHAA member Shatterproof, 30% of the LGBTQIA+ community lives with addiction, compared to just 9% of the general population. In observance of Pride Month, Shatterproof has shared a resource on addiction in the LGBTQIA+ community, with information on how to get involved and help. The resource explains how addiction uniquely impacts queer and trans individuals, why they’re at increased risk for substance use, and the most effective forms of care.
